I am an eBay top rated seller with excellent metrics for over 5 years now. On October 31, 2025, eBay started putting funds on hold for incoming sales until 7 days after the items have been delivered. This happened without any warning or an email from eBay that they would now hold funds until 1 week after delivery.
I have been selling on eBay consistently for the past 5 years, and have been receiving my payouts daily until now. There have been no changes to my account and my sales and listing practices in the same categories have been stable. No sudden growth or any account defect problems. I have talked to different customer service reps who all give me a different answer. It seems phone reps have absolutely no idea how to resolve this and just read off a script or AI google search. eBay phone reps say the hold on funds is not permanent, but they also don't know when the fund holds on purchases will be lifted. When asked if they see any problems within my store, they say everything is excellent. They have no answer as to why funds are being held, aside from " this is a new policy "
I just want someone from eBay to help me, someone that knows what's happening and can clearly explain this new funds on hold for eBay seller accounts that have excellent standing. I want to understand why there was no seller news on this, or why we didn't even receive an e-mail before a new policy rolled out was to be applied to my store? I know I am not alone on this topic, and many sellers have been asking the same questions with no clear answers.
eBay needs to be more transparent with actions they take on seller accounts so we can be ready. Items shipped out take anywhere from 4-10 days to be delivered. Then payments will not be released again until 7 days after delivery. This cripples my business' cashflow. From bills, to inventory re-stock, to paying my overhead to keep the store running. How does an eBay store grow when the payments are tied up for 2-3 weeks without warning? I'm upset because I follow eBay rules and policies by the book, provide excellent customer service, yet I feel my store is being treated like its a new account.

Hello books-games-glass,
Thanks for sharing your situation. We understand how frustrating it is not to receive a clear answer.
Transaction holds are applied automatically by our system, and the timing/conditions for release can vary by transaction. Because of this, there isn’t a fixed set of criteria that we can manually review or override in most cases.
Holds are most common for new or infrequent sellers, and this policy may apply to any seller on the platform. We’re glad to hear you’ve reached Top Rated status. However, the system may still require additional selling history signals before it recognizes the account as fully established and reduces/removes the hold.
To help speed this up, please make sure:
This helps the system evaluate not only the number of transactions, but also delivery performance and overall selling history.
With your current Top Rated status, you’re in a strong position to continue building positive history, and the holds should reduce over time. For reference, here is eBay’s Transaction Holds policy: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816&st=3&pos=5&query=Transaction%20holds&intent=payment&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1450

Hi there!
Just to share some general insight, transaction holds can sometimes occur even on well established accounts, and there are a variety of reasons why this might happen.
In most cases, a closer review is needed to better understand what triggered the hold.
The good news is that there are often ways to resolve these situations, helping your account return to a normal payment flow either quickly or within a defined timeframe.
Holds are typically used to promote better selling practices and to ensure a safe and smooth experience for both buyers and sellers.
Each transaction is evaluated at checkout, and occasionally a hold may be placed to help ensure the transaction completes successfully.
For example, higher value items may sometimes have funds held, even for experienced sellers.
For security and privacy reasons, specific details about holds on seller accounts can’t be reviewed or shared on a public forum, as this helps protect sensitive account information.
The next step would be to contact eBay directly so they can look into your account in detail.
When you reach out via eBay.com > Help & Contact, you might want to ask:
1) What is the reason for the transaction hold?
2) What steps are needed to resolve it ?
3) What information is required to release the funds?
The support team will be able to guide you more precisely based on your account.
Warm Regards

·2 months agoHello,
I am a Top Rated seller by Ebay's own metrics and standards and all of my sales funds are being held until 7 days after delivery, which is just ridiculous. I have tried all of the things you listed above, and your support team doesn't seem to know how the system actually works, as they cannot give me any specifics about what I should be doing other than, "just keep selling".
1. They said it was because I was growing, which I would think that would be a good thing, but apparently not.
2. The only thing they said was just keep selling and that in time it would improve. When I asked how much time, they kept repeating that they didn't really have a number or timeline they go by. When I asked how many additional positive sales I need to achieve, they said they didn't know. I do not believe the support team actually knows how the automated system goes about making its decisions or what actually needs to be done to improve the situation. All they could give were vague answers.
3. I tried to asked that, and they didn't know. They just kept saying to keep selling, which is a terrible answer.
Can you answer some of these questions for me in detail?
Thanks.

·4 months agoAgreed! They did the same thing to me! Almost 100% rating and have never failed to deliver what I sold. They told me it’s for everyone who sells on eBay. Haha, that’s funny because my significant other does not have payment on hold till delivery and I have been selling 4 more years than her. eBay is the worst. I’m done with them and their vague policies. No transparency whatsoever. I understand if people are taking advantage of others and they should be punished. Not the good sellers who never make a mistake!

·4 months agoI also got an email saying mine were on hold today as well but when I checked my account it shows no holds. Might just be a glitch in their system.

·6 months agosame here. top rated seller, solid history, no issues, and payouts suddenly switched to being held after delivery. no warning, no email, nothing. support gives different answers every time and no one can explain why established accounts are treated this way. the cash flow impact is real and ebay really needs to be clearer and more transparent about changes like this.

·6 months agoAfter 24 years on the platform, having our payouts hijacked with no rational reasoning or explanation is unacceptable. As such, we stopped selling on ebay nearly two months ago.
If ebay seeks to add value to buyers, may I suggest that ebay stops providing fraudsters with accounts and a platform upon which to practice their grifting. Holding the assets of established sellers is biting the hand that feeds. In the future, if we decide to again sell on the platform, any hold placed will immediately necessitate our cancellation of the sale; as there is no way we are going to be providing Ebay with interest free assets upon whichh ebay earns money market rates. Although ebay has always treated sellers poorly, this new payout policy is absurd and demonstrates an utter lack of respect and appreciation for sellers: for those who generate the fees and revenue streams that keep Ebay's overpaid executives stooped over with their snouts down at the trough!

Dear eBay Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to raise a concern regarding the current hold on my eBay balance, which has now extended for over a month. As a long-time seller on the platform operating under the eBay .I find this situation difficult and unsustainable.
I have been actively selling on eBay for over 10 years, consistently maintaining my seller standards and fulfilling an average monthly sales volume of $8,000 to $10,000. My business relies entirely on eBay, and holding funds for such an extended period directly impacts my ability to operate, fulfill orders, and maintain customer satisfaction.
Please understand that I strictly adhere to all eBay policies and have always prioritized buyer satisfaction. Placing my funds on hold for a month despite a strong seller track record feels unjustified and detrimental to both my business and the buyer experience.
I kindly request a thorough review of my account and that you reconsider the current holding pattern. I would greatly appreciate it if disbursements could be made on a daily basis, which would allow me to manage inventory, operations, and customer service more effectively.
I trust you will take a fair and business-minded approach to this issue. Thank you for your time and understanding. I look forward to your positive response.
Best regards,

·4 months agoEbay doesn't care. Im in the same bought selling for over 10 years. Funny how a month in a half before my income taxes are due, they start holding everyone's funds. No heads up or anything. And ebays stock just keeps going up and up.

Hello 708vtg
Transaction holds may occasionally occur, even on well-established accounts, for a variety of reasons.
In most cases, a detailed review is required to determine what specifically triggered the hold. For privacy and security reasons, this level of account-specific information cannot be reviewed or discussed in a public forum.
In many situations, there are clear steps that can be taken to resolve the issue, allowing your account to return to a normal payment flow either promptly or within a defined timeframe.
These holds are generally implemented to encourage best selling practices and to help ensure a safe, reliable experience for both buyers and sellers. Each transaction is assessed at checkout, and in some cases, a hold may be applied to help ensure successful completion.
If you have not already done so, I recommend contacting eBay through eBay.com > Help & Contact and asking the following:
1) What is the specific reason for the transaction hold?
2) What steps are required to resolve it?
3) What information is needed to release the funds?
Like all platforms, eBay operates under established policies and regulatory requirements designed to maintain a secure and compliant marketplace for all users.

·9 months agoI have experienced the same freezing funds and the same selling limitations without a proper explanation. I've been selling for more than 13 years with a perfect feedback. This is outrageous. We need a better selling partner. Ebay seems to be working only for their profit without taking care of us sellers.
