Permanent Selling Restriction Due to Bad Buyer Experience (BBE)

Hi,

I am writing regarding the recent permanent selling restriction placed on my account under eBay’s Bad Buyer Experience (BBE) evaluation.

I have been an active eBay seller for over 8 years with a strong feedback record and no prior violations until December 2025.

This situation is very concerning to me.

Recently, an order was delivered in damaged condition due to transit issues. The buyer did not contact me prior to leaving negative feedback and opening a return request. I processed a full refund immediately and did not request the item to be returned, which resulted in a financial loss on my end.

I also reported the issue to the postal service, and they acknowledged the damage during transit. Despite this, the transaction was counted as a defect. As a result, my defect rate has increased to 6.1% (2 defects out of 49 orders), both linked to the same buyer.

I have already submitted multiple appeals, but unfortunately, the restriction remains in place. Given my long history of compliant selling and the circumstances beyond my control, I kindly request a reconsideration of my case.

I would appreciate your review and guidance on how this issue can be resolved.

    Dear ebay Team,

When I appealed for the first time, my feedback was 2091. Now even when I just logged in, it shows 13 positives from my last sales, and today it shows my ID has turned to 2100 feedback, which clearly proves that this ("hou*ho") buyer has violated the eBay returns policy, and you people supported that buyer. So it would be appreciated if you people made rectifications on the eBay platform and removed the no-selling privilege. to activate selling privilege.

This is the worst policy implemented by eBay; because of a few sellers, all of us sellers have been getting targeted. eBay is just helping only us sellers...

I am still not getting if the buyer purchased two goods and, out of the two goods, one was damaged in transit, and for that I completely accepted and refunded the full amount for the same because the shipping courier accepted that it was because a heavy item was kept over on it, which is clearly shown in the image shared by the buyer—that one was being pressured—so I refunded the full amount. But for the second one, I still cannot accept why eBay is supporting the buyer and counting the defect against me. Not for one but for the two. And in eBay training, the employee itself says if the damage is out of the seller's control, the defect won't be counted for sellers, and they themselves say that we can provide the refund for the same and the defects will be removed, but in my case, the defect counted for damage out of my control even though I had a loss for the item as well. as well as the buyer misusing the eBay return policy for not-damaged goods and eBay supporting such buyers too.

    eBay EXPORT team.
How many horror stories like this do you need to see?

You are going to restrict old time seller with 8 years proven history for  defects?
    For reasons outside his hands?

When you finally acknowledge this BBE system is wrong and need some evaluation?
I bet the people who imagined this BBE system no longer work with eBay, but you still forcefully insist to continue?

BBE was introduced mainly because of the bad asian sellers, yet you put all sellers, small big, old new onto same bag like we are equal.
    We are not.
Small accounts with few sales cant afford even 1  bad buyer or 1 defect for any reaosn.
Thats sooo unfair and eBay is still the only platform with practices like this, why on earth why???

Please stop this madness and find a better way how to find and punish bad sellers, rather than having same ruler for all....

... sorry not for all because only abroad sellers are under BBE policy, like all local sellers are sunshines.

Dont you see a problem here.

This stupid policy need revision otherwise you will loose all good abroad sellers until there will be no one to sell here...

I'm afraid there is no way to resolve it my friend...

This ABSURD BBE policy imposed ~2 years ago by ebay, lately started to act like a plague for non-US small sellers...

I recently got two well established "ebay top rated seller" accounts PERMANENTLY restricted for selling (=practically CLOSE  account FOR EVER...), just because i got a few INR cases and a couple of order cancelations in a realtively short time...

If your metrics are no re comply in ~month (which is practically impossible in your case) then ebay will PERMENANTLY close your selling account!

Quoting from someone  commented very aptly the subject here:

eBay.com has launched some kind of hidden campaign to eliminate all small and medium-sized sellers located outside the USA. The rules created to sell on eBay.com are such that any small or medium seller is essentially playing a lottery as to when they will be destroyed, no matter how well and professionally they do their job...

...the reality is that eBay’s rules are designed so that sooner or later you will be forced out, even if you have fulfilled your responsibilities honestly.

...about two years ago, the eBay representative assigned to our store called me. After a longer conversation, the representative clearly stated that if your annual turnover does not exceed $100,000, you are not considered an important seller to eBay — they simply do not care whether you are there or not.

...Look at how often international sellers have recently been writing here that their stores have been closed because of this BBE statistic. This is not the fault of a single seller — it is the result of a system deliberately created by eBay’s BBE metrics, where for any seller outside the USA it is only a matter of time before they lose their store.

Dear eBay community, Please help me. Just after the tariffs were imposed, I had a late shipment for us, and the main reason for SNAD is two defects from the same buyer purchasing two items. how can I receive two defects from one buyer for two items?

And as the buyer mentioned that they received it damaged, it was only because of postal error that the item got damaged in the transportation, and the postal department acknowledged it. The buyer was refunded immediately, and still the defects were counted against my selling performance.

I have already submitted multiple appeals, but unfortunately, the restriction remains in place.

I would appreciate your review and guidance on how this issue can be resolved.

    And please do

    Dear orzanikstore

Thank you for taking the time to share these details. We understand you have faced interruptions with your sales, especially given your long selling history.

From what you’ve described, this appears to be related to eBay’s Bad Buyer Experience (BBE) evaluation, which looks at transactions that may result in a poor buyer experience , such as “item not as described,” damaged items, or cases where buyers need to open requests. These evaluations are based on transaction outcomes rather than intent, and in some cases, multiple transactions with the same buyer can each be assessed individually.

For more context on how these metrics and restrictions are determined, you may find this page helpful:

    https://export.ebay.com/en/fees-regulations-policies/ebay-policies/bber-2025/#FAQ

Reviewing this information can help clarify how defect rates and BBE thresholds are calculated, including how situations like returns or damage in transit may still be reflected in performance metrics.

That said, for privacy and security reasons, we’re won't be able to review or comment on account specific actions including restrictions or appeals within a public forum.

These decisions are handled by specialized teams who conduct a comprehensive review of the account and associated transactions.

We can certainly understand your concerns, and they’ve been noted. To ensure your account details remain protected and to explore whether any additional clarification may be available, we recommend reaching out directly through eBay Help & Contact. Our support teams can review your case in a secure environment and provide the most accurate guidance based on your account history while reviewing the specifics you have addressed.

If you’ve already received a final decision following prior appeals, that outcome may remain in place. However, you can still follow up through the same support channels if you need further clarification on the reasoning or next steps.

    Regards, eBay Team
